Well, you're not alone.

In fact, in 2007 one third of the region's flights were delayed and three quarters of delays nationwide were due to the New York region's airports.

In addition, for those flights that were delayed, the average length of that delay was about an hour. With over 100 million passengers going through these airports every year, the fact that change is necessary becomes readily apparent.

These delays are not merely an inconvenience, but they also affect people's pocketbooks and the overall regional economy. According to a New York City Partnership report, delays will cost the New York region an estimated $79 billion from 2008 to 2025! That same report projects that by 2018, 40 million people who would want to come to the New York region will not be able to because the region's airports will be at capacity. This lost revenue will affect the entire region from business transactions to tourism.
